Vegas Nightmare

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

Between Bruce and myself we managed not to make it through the Ladbrokes weekly final, despite good performances,  Bruce (_oldgit_) coming 5th and myself (eddy147) 3rd.

Frustrating to say the least with 10k in prize pool for top2, still always another week at poker as we all know.

God I Hate the Game !!

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

Well what a month it has been so far, trying to make a living playing internet poker.

The month started really well with me getting to final tables of several good tournaments and winning a decent amount at the same time, but one thing you can never do with playing on the internet is to get complacent.  Why?   Because just round the corner, there is a scandi just waiting to muff you.

I was in a game yesterday where there were two All Ins so I folded my pocket Queens, thinking there had to be Aces or Kings out there as it was deep in a tournament, and surely no one would risk their tourney at that late stage with garbage.

Wrong !! It was K9 v K8 and my Queens would have stood up and I would of been chip leader.  Having said that, I would do exactly the same again. You have to ask yourself: “What am I ahead of?” and with two all ins in a big pot you have to assume you are behind and put your hand down.

And that has been the story of my month!! However, I am in the final of  the Vegas game tonight, so hopefully I will get through and make an average month into a good month.  Good luck at the tables, guys.

Calling All In and Hand Ranges

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

During Saturday’s tournament with 4 players left, two of our best players made very average calls to All In bets with average holdings.

Calling an All In with deepstack and for more than 20% of my stack I need a minimum of AK.  My reasoning for this is simple – I’m in front of all random cards and only behind to a pocket pair.  Next time you think of calling an All In with A8 A9, ask yourself what range of hands you could possibly be in front of.

My Month so far…

Saturday, February 21st, 2009

February started pretty well,  satellite on Ladbrokes into 4k guaranteed then 3rd for $1375, so not bad for a $15 satellite. Then $10 rebuy 370 runners 4th for $702.

Since then a steady 2 weeks on cash and Las Vegas weekly, final losing to table muppet who calls my All In with a10, my red Jacks looked good when first card of was Jack of Spades.  Unfortunatley the next 4 cards were all clubs giving him a flush through his ten.

Then Friday night im tired after DTD trip.  Linda though gets 12th in 17.5K guaranteed from 600 runners for $300 – a great performance and so close.

DTD on Thursday night gave me chance to play live instead of organizing and I did enjoy 18th from 116 in £5 freezeout, then over to the cash tables for 3 hours cashing out with a £400 profit.
